1. Information relevant to you  Whilst we have considerable in-house investment expertise as part of the large Chartwell Group, we aim to keep our information provision relevant, succinct and easy to understand for all readers. We believe that there is no shortage of information provided about investing, most of which is pure speculation. The most important factors for all private investors are to know what your objectives and time frames are, and to understand and control the levels of risk across your savings and investments. Chartwell Direct can provide you with access to approximately 2000 funds with associated discounts, however this is of little help to those who do not know who to invest with and do not wish to pour over fund manager analysis facts and figures. Our ISA Portfolios provide you with ‘ideal’ investment solutions and come with what we believe to be a unique ongoing service and reporting commitment to all investors.

2. Exceptional Portfolio discounts - no initial charges! The discount service that Chartwell Direct provides wipes out any initial charge for investing into the unit trusts/OEICs within the Portfolios. This ensures that all of your money is invested from day one. These are vital advantages in the current climate. We have secured these terms because of our size allows us to negotiate large discounts with all the leading fund management houses. These charges are often in the region of 4.5% of the money invested into the Portfolio, and so can add up to a real saving of well over £324 on a full ISA investment of £7,200 or indeed over £459 for those over 50 yars with allowances of £10,200.  The ISA limit will increase to £10,200 for all investors from 6th April 2010. We have calculated the savings for each of the Portfolios below and illustrated the extent of the reduction on the initial charges based on an investment of £10,200.

Chartwell ISA Portfolios Standard Initial Charge * % saving through Chartwell £ Saving through Chartwell
High Income 4% 4% £408
Income & Growth 4.5% 4.5% £459
Growth 4.4% 4.4% £448
Adventurous Growth 4.5% 4.5% £459
3. Portfolio Reviews We want to make sure that these Portfolios make good investment sense now and in the future. Inevitably the performance, underlying investments and even management of all unit trusts/OEICs can change quickly and dramatically. Because we are part of the large Chartwell Group, we can use our in-house investment management and research expertise to monitor all of these Portfolios on an ongoing basis. We will update our observations and commentaries on the Portfolios on an ongoing basis online via our fortnightly e-mailed newsletter called FundInsight.  Do call our Investment helpdesk  on 0117 9170777 if you wish to make sure that you receive this correspondence.
4. Bringing your portfolio to life Even the most enthusiastic investor could struggle to get too excited about the sometimes fairly predictable names and objectives of the various funds available in the retail market. As an investment broker, there is little we can do about that other than ensure that we use our internal research team to keep on top of any vital changes or performance issues with each fund manager. However, we do believe that all private investors should be given the chance to understand a bit about where their money is being invested and, in the case of our ISAs, why your chosen Portfolio is sophisticated as well as simple. We bring this all to life for you via our Portfolio reporting service. In partnership with FundsLibrary we have designed a set of monthly updated reports that provide you with all of the essential 'investment’ information presented in a colourful and interesting way.
There are five unit trusts/OEICs hand picked from different fund managers in each Portfolio. More information on these follows over the page. Our reporting service, however, aggregates the underlying investments in each unit trust/OEIC and draws up a picture of:
‘where in the world’ your money is invested
what industries and what assets it is invested in
the top ten holdings within the combined Portfolio
On top of this there is an analysis of how diversified your chosen Portfolio is, as this can mitigate a large amount of investment risk for the private investor. The ‘concentration ratio’assesseswhetherthere are some dangerously large dependencies on the performance of one company or one country/industry. For example, a heavy dependencyon a small number of banking stocks would have been catastrophic in the last few months of 2008. The higher the concentration, the more diversified you are. All ofthe Chartwell ISA Portfolios have good diversification and we will ensure that this remains the case.
5. The Direct Advice ISA Transfer Service
Given the volatility of markets over the past two years we do believe that all investors should re-asses their ISA portfolios and consider whether their mix of funds, perhaps built up over a long period of time, remains appropriate for them.  For example some investors have been surprised by the fluctuations that they have seen in recent valuations. Now is a good time to make sure you are happy with all of your current investments.  With taxes expected to rise over the coming years taking advantage of this tax-efficient savings account has never been so crucial.  With the end of the tax year looming the 'Direct Advice' Financial Planning team is ideally placed to provide tax efficient suggestions to you.  Many of our clients have benefitted from our ISA Review Service that ensures that your portfolio continues to be in line with your attitude to investment risk and financial objectives.  If you wish to make the most of this new service please call 0117 9170766 or email at directadvice@chartwell.co.uk.
